The Provincial Grand Lodge of Dunbartonshire
Annual Masters Dinner
Appeal Presentation to the National Autistic Society
Tuesday 5th April 2011

On Tuesday 5th April 2011 the Province held its Annual Masters Dinner in the premises of Dumbarton Kilwinning Lodge No 18. It was a splendid occasion which was attended by 117 brethren representing all 21 lodges within the Province. Also in attendance was Bro. Thomas F. Jessop Substitute Grand Master accompanied by Bro. David M. Begg Grand Secretary.

The main focus of the evening was to present the proceeds of the Provincial Grand Master's Appeal to his chosen charity, the National Autistic Society Scotland. To boost the funds of the Appeal the 21 Lodges in the Province held various events which varied from climbing Munros in the Isle of Skye, walking the West Highland Way, auctions, dances, raffles and many more. The special guest and main speaker for the evening was Dr. Robert Moffat, the National Director of the National Autistic Society in Scotland. Dr. Moffat was accompanied by Mrs Anna Cooper, who coordinates the activities of "Teenscene", a support group for teenagers within the Autistic Spectrum, based in Torrance and Messrs. Paul Gallagher and Brian Docherty from the parents support group in Clydebank.

Dr. Moffat addressed the brethren and provided them with a fascinating insight into Autism. He went into some detail of what Autism is, how its effects the lives of those with the disorder and also the impact it has on the families of those affected. Dr. Moffat went to great pains to express to the brethren the significant difference their fund raising activities would have within the local groups and thanked them for it.

The evening was concluded with our Provincial Grand Master, Bro. Thomas K. Leckenby, presenting Dr. Moffat with a cheque for 30,000. The Provincial Grand Master praised the Lodges for their generous support for the Appeal which was over and above their givings over the past year to other causes e.g. 22,000 to Masonic Benevolence and 11,000 to external charities.

An overall superb evening, with an excellent speaker with the proceeds supporting a most worthy cause.
