Masters Dinner 2009

On Tuesday 7th April 2009 the PGL of Dunbartonshire held its Annual Masters Dinner in Dumbarton. This year’s dinner took on a different format from usual to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns. The PGM Bro. Tom Leckenby got the evening underway and welcomed the 110 brethren from the province to the dinner. He then introduced his top-table, including the guest speaker Bro Archie Chalmers PGM Ayrshire. Bro. Paul Leslie, PG Piper then piped in the haggis which was carried by caterer Bro David Bell. The Address to a Haggis was recited with much gusto by Bro. Robert McPherson Master Lodge 1234, followed by the Selkirk Grace by Bro. Rev. Ian Easton PG Chaplain. A splendid haggis dinner was served and enjoyed by all.

Following the meal the programme of entertainment continued with a talk on "The Three Principal Founder Members of the Burns Federation" by Brother Archibald Chalmers PGM Ayrshire who also proposed a toast to Robert Burns. Tam O Shanter was then recited by Bro.Walter Snedden PM Lodge321 and Holy Willie’s Prayer by Bro. Les Reynolds, Past Prov. Senior Grand Warden. These were interspaced with Burns Songs by Bro. James Irwin Lodge 18.

A well deserved vote of thanks to the speaker and artistes was proposed by Brother George McCaughey Substitute PGM and the assembled brethren showed their appreciation with hearty applause.

The evening was completed with all the brethren joining in Auld Land Syne.
