Fishing competition

The PGL fishing competition took place on 17th May at Lawfield Fishery, Kilmacolm. The weather was cloudy and windy, which made conditions difficult for the Anglers who were fishing into the wind for most of the morning.

Eleven hardy Anglers took part representing Lodges 18, 170, 1234, 1304 and 1572. This was a lower turnout than we have seen in the past. The first Angler to get his 4 fish limit was Jim McColl PM 170 followed some time later by John MacQueen PM representing 1234 and David Peddie PM representing Lodge Bearsden. A total of 22 fish were caught. The winning team this year was Lodge Bearsden, represented by George Kerr PM and David Peddie PM with a total weight of 18lb 13oz. The heaviest fish was caught by Frank Ramage from Lodge 170 coming in at 3lb 8oz. At lunchtime, Billy, the owner of the Fishery, dished up lovely steak and gravy pies and beans with tea and coffee for lunch which went down really well and kept everyone going for the rest of the day. Next year the PGL fishing competition will be organised by Jim McColl PM 170 and myself, Malcolm Macdonald PM 1234. We are looking forward to taking the competition onwards and upwards as the numbers have been depreciating now for a number of years. It is our intention to change the date and make it a week later, so next year the competition will be held on Saturday 23rd May. We are also looking at a change of venue and amongst others Burnhouse Lochan Fishery in Bonnybridge looks quite promising.
Have a look at the website http://www.burnhouse-fishery.co.uk
We are open to other suggestions for a change of venue - just let us know. This competition is open to all Brethren who are paid up members of any Lodge within the Province of Dunbartonshire. So come along and join us and make this competition a great success again. If you do not have a team partner from your own Lodge then team up with another Brother and toss a coin to see which Lodge you will be representing and alternate it from year to year. Our thanks go again to Billy our host at Lawfield Fishery. Malcolm Macdonald PM 1234.
