On Tuesday, 6th October 2015, the Provincial Grand Master Brother John R. McCormack welcomed over 90 Brethren to the Masonic Temple in Dumbarton for the Presentation Dinner for his chosen charity, the Emma Cameron Foundation, with the guest speaker for the evening, Mr Alan Cameron.

The Foundation is a young charity, named after Emma Cameron, a young girl who developed a rare form of cancer known as osteosarcoma. Despite her condition, Emma continued to enjoy life to the full, sadly dying before her 12th Birthday. Her condition highlighted to her father, Alan Cameron, the lack of support for children in the latter stages of cancer. His resolve to provide help and assistance to children with cancer and providing support to their families led to the establishment of the Foundation; with the backing of the Province, the PGM was happy to endorse the charity during his term. With little or no administrative spend, the Foundation can use all monies raised to support their aims. The dinner marked the culmination of over two years hard work by every Lodge in the Province, with every Brother, their families and friends working to raise much needed funds for this most worthy cause. The PGM opened the evening by welcoming everyone to the dinner, and introduced Mr Cameron and his top table guests. He spoke briefly on the work of the charity before dinner, which was most ably served by Alex Graham.

Dinner over, the PGM expanded on the efforts of the Lodges to raise funds for the Foundation and thanked the Brethren most profusely for all that had been done in raising the magnificent sum of £33,000. He then asked Alan Cameron to update the Brethren on the progress the charity has made in the two years since he first spoke to us. Much has been achieved in that time, with the establishment of the 'sleep tight' sitting service using qualified nursing staff which provides much needed overnight respite for the families of children in the latter stages of cancer. Our support will help in no small measure to ensure that this service will continue as a main aim of the charity. Mr Cameron spoke in a most eloquent and moving manner on the work of the charity; you could have heard a pin drop, such was the attention give by all in attendance. His update over, the Provincial Grand Master was delighted to present a cheque to Mr Cameron for £33,000, representing the magnificent sum raised during the course of the appeal by the Lodges, Brethren and their friends.
